Coming from marriage

What are some of the challenges of ENM(ethical non-monogamy)/polyamory coming from a monogamous background? Perhaps there are children from the marriage or from prior marriages/relationships? Are there unresolved issues in the marriage? Is there some sort of unaddressed ennui? ENM will not help solve those issues and please seek someone professional for help. My specialty is in helping people with polyamory and other forms of ENM

I think the best thing a married couple can do is go together and keep the pace of the slowest enthusiast. Failing to do this risks disrespecting the integrity of the current relationship and is sowing a minefield of resentments.

What do the both of you want from this journey right now? Discuss this openly and without judgement. Understand that the wants of now will change over time as the both of you journey into non-monogamy.

What are the first steps the both of you will take? Is it a shared reading of non-monogamous books and articles? Is it a counselor that can help the both of you with the unknowns of ENM? Will it be reading/sharing erotic media together? Might it be attending an event? Is it only to stay in the land of fantasy? Having a good idea of where mutual interests lie is a good start to the ongoing conversation.

What style of ENM is attractive to you right now, swinging, polyamory, BDSM, DADT, RA? As with any subgroup, there are various sub-interests that have turned into a plethora of acronyms. None of these are hard and fast categories and there is significant overlap between them.
